Great Sand Dunes National Park is unlike any other landscape in Colorado. Here, the tallest dunes in North America rise in graceful curves beneath the towering Sangre de Cristo Mountains, surrounded by windswept grasslands. The dunes are a living fossil, born from the sediments of a great lake that once filled the San Luis Valley. What remains is a landscape shaped by water, wind, and the passage of time.
I chose to capture this remarkable place during the fleeting moments of golden hour, as the landscape bathes in glowing light, and the moon begins its quiet ascent into the evening sky. A herd of wild horses roams across the scene, inspired by the untamed horses of the San Luis Valley. Their presence echoes the wild and resilient spirit of the land itself.
